Different Kinds of Clouds

The air has water vapor that constantly hits with dust, salt, and other tiny particles floating in the air. These tiny particles are aerosols. The water vapor sticks to the aerosols when the air is cooled. This process is called condensation. Then, these  water droplets start clinging with other droplets until they become a bigger collection of tiny droplets of water. When  very tiny droplets of water or ice crystals  gather together, they form clouds.

Clouds have three main types.

Cirrus clouds  are high clouds that feathery and fine. The ice crystals make these clouds white.  Cirrus clouds predict there would be a fair weather.

Stratus clouds are low-level clouds that are thick, grayish, and flat. They usually cover the sky completely. They also bring rain or snow.

Cumulus clouds are also known as fair-weather clouds. They have flat bottoms and lumpy upper parts that make them look like pieces of puffy cotton hanging in the sky.  In a fine day, they are low-level clouds but, in an unstable atmosphere,  they  can become bigger , higher, and turn into cumulonimbus that bring heavy rain, snow,  hail, or tornadoes. Cumulonimbus has a shape of an anvil.
