How do you read time?

In order to read time, you need to remember the following:

We say the hour using the number pointed to by the short hand.

We say the minutes using the number the long hand points to. The numbers follow multiples of 5.

1 is 5 minutes; 2 is 10 minutes; and so on and so forth.

We will focus on half-hour and quarter-hour this time.

When the long hand points to 10, we read it as :30 or half past an hour.

It's 10:30.
It's half past 10.

When the long hand points to 2, we read it as :15 or quarter past an hour.

It's 2:15.
It's quarter past 2.

When the long hand points to 9, we read it as :45 or quarter to an hour.

It's 7:45.
It's quarter to 8..
